if you are running OS9, try holding down shift when you restart, that will turn off the extensions. Open extensions manager in your control panels
and look for the faulty extension and uncheck the box.

I've been having the same problem lately. The machine runs for a little bit I move the mouyse around then it freezes up with the cursor displaying as the clock. I'm finally dome with os9, I'm going to just stay in osX from now on.

thanks _d - my last PC exploded into a cloud of smoke less than a year into owning it!

You need to run DiskWarrior on your machine - could be a damaged startup disk.
If your on a network turn off file-sharing
Hope this helps!

I personally use both.
I have a PC and 2 Macs, however, I treat my macs as if they were my very own children.
The PC simply need a roof over it's head.

if OS9, try throwing out your finder preferences.
And buy Norton Disk doctor. saved my butt a few times.

also try holding down apple-option-p-r after you hear the first chime, and continue to hold for about 3 more chimes. that trick works wonders.

You can also run the Apple Hardware Test CD....Tech Tool or Norton etc..
Next time buy Applecare... its worth it.

Usually when that happens to me it is a font problem. You might have duplicate fonts loaded in your suitcase app. Might be trying to activate a font that is missing on your comp. Or one of your fonts just went corrupt.
Start comp without extensions, throw away your suitcase preferences. Restart. If it fixes the problem, reload your fonts one at a time.
If all else fails, reload your OS. If that fails, do a clean install of the OS. If that fails....

Did anyone mention Disk First Aid/Disk Utility?
What OS are we talking about anyway?
For OSX theres also FSCK at the startup command line...
But I've said it before and I'll say it again... Applecare. Best $200-odd you can spend!
