i have a div (drop down menu) and there is a flash movie underneath it. but the flash movie is playing over the DIV, any idea how to fix this?

omg this must be asked at least 2 times a week!!
in the param bit of your flash movie code make the [wmode] to [transparent]
this will make your flash movie 'transparent' and let your menu float over it - but be warned it does not work for everything....

set the flash object to a static image when the menu is initialized, then revert after it's been retracted... that's a cheap, dirty way.
- jevad0
yeah thats another way - and your best way - can get a bit tricky though...
http://www.orange.co.uk do it really well

Somebody should mention this to Adobe, noticed today they still haven't fixed it on their homepage - slackers.

you know, the most simple option is to just use flash menus...

thanks guys, sorry i had not seen it asked before and i am an avid reader. i will try your suggestions.
and mitsu, i am not using flash menus, my menus are static OVER flash.

it's a layering issue

"and mitsu, i am not using flash menus, my menus are static OVER flash. "
hence my 2nd suggestion

jevad, good trick, that's been bothering me forever and i was scard to ask cause i might have gotten yelled at.
- jevad0
noone here yells dude!
: )

anyone know how to fix this for firebox? wmode doesn.
- ethios0
This is IMPOSSIBLE. The flash will always place itself on a "layer" above whatever you want on top. You can not override this with z-index either.

THIS IS YELLING HERE,
and nope, no one yells(or they get hosed)
(or bitched out by jevad)

that doesn't actually solve it jevad, that only allows for content underneath the flash movie to be visible...
- jevad0
It solves the problem she was asking about though. With the wmode trick you can use drop down html/dhtml menus layered over a flash movie...
- gabriel20
the flash will still cover the div's. the wmode fix allows for other content to appear behind the flash, but unless she makes the entire area where the drop down navs exist transparent, the flash movie will cover it. it can also cause some havoc with links in any html that appears behind the flash
- jevad0
Now I am confused. I've done this before
- gabriel20
actually, I stand corrected, I just tried it and it seems to work. the only bug I noticed was with firefox is that it would cut out any other content that occurred below my flash movie, but that might just be something else causing it...
