I need to upgrade to OSX eventually. Should I just wait for Panther to come out?

yes. it's due next month (or two). and Apple doesn't offer upgrade prices for OS X

if you are going to buy it, then wait...panther will be out in a couple months....

then wait for the panther updates afterwards, and eventually you'll have a smoothly running machine maybe a year from now.

Yeah, wait 4 Panther. Mac OS X is a great OS, it is very stable. Just make sure you have at least a G4...
