anyone ever worked for them? Or heard anything about someone's experience working there?
thanks.

I was in the Peace Corps, but Americorps is obviously the domestic arm of the US Government's aim to help underpriveledged people. OK, look more than likely you will end up in east of buttfuck West Virginia (Appalachia) or Arkansas. Then again, I have seen Americorps volunteers in NYC on BBC America. Not sure how they shake it. You probably have some control over where you are placed. Mostly redevelopment work I think :)

Thanks Jaz...Luckily, I know I'll be right where I am now (Denver), so that is good. Hehe, I have been to places where the buses don't run, certainly interesting, especially in the bible belt.
I'm fairly familiar with Americorps itself, just wondering about personal experiences, pay, etc. Thanks again Jaz.
I forgot to mention, i'm applying for an IT Coordinator position.

flatulence, I would do it man, it's great to help people if your heart is in the right place. I guess mine was when I was in Africa but to be honest, there is so much political BS that get's in your way at every level. very Bureaucratic state of affairs dealing with US Gov. It will be the same for you, but hey man good luck and IT Coordinator sounds great. What I want to do is get my MS in Interactive Design and then teach it to black kids in the Bush in Africa. :)

nice, very nice.

thanks for the support Jaz. I know what you mean about the political BS, but I guess you're gonna run into that on some level every place.
My outlook on technology and non-profits is similar to theirs, especially concerning the whole digital divide.
if you don't mind me asking, when do you plan on going back to school for the interactive design? Sounds like a lot of fun!

well, no I don't mind, I started working at Carnegie Mellon U and I get to take free classes, major bonus right? Anyway, they offer a very nice MS Interactive Design program. I can only take 2 classes per semester. I might opt out of a few, then I can take my BS and Teaching Certificate with computer skills and that MS Degree back to Africa and bark at the moon. No one will care, but at least I will have the skills! Haa haa :)

BTW, I think it's great that you do that Pro-Bon work, everyone should be required to do it in their life. It would make so-called first world countries a better place to live and have more compassion on developing countries, so-to-speak. There are plenty of poor-ass Americans so go for it! My white-bread ass was one of them. :)

sounds like a good plan Jaz, and you're damn right about the free schooling. That's a HUGE bonus. It may take longer, but it will take less time to pay back ;)
I agree, everyone should do some sort of volunteering or pro-bono work for the less-priveleged. I worked at an international youth camp about 5 years ago for free. They didn't even pay for me to go out there. But I tell you what, it was one of the best experiences I've ever had.

exactly, that type of stuff is priceless and will mean so much to you :)
