ok, just been discussing spam with a mate of mine, and i was hoping you could setlle something for us.
a guy wants to offer a service. he sits down one night, and trawls the web himself for companies that he thinks could be interested in this service. he then sends them all a html email telling them about this service. its a one off thing. would this be classed as spam?
i'd really like to hear your thoughts on this.
cheers

any unsolicited emails trying to sell something is considered spam. He would be better off sending them a personal email first and asking them if they would be interested in what he's trying to offer, then send them the html advertisement. At least that's how I would do it. When i get html emails from places/people that i don't already know i delete them without reading them anyway.

Why aren't there any organizations and hate sites for regular unsolicited mail? And why is that legal? I dunno how many coupons and offers i get everyday from local grocery stores.
I mean, it's illegal for you to send them an e-mail offering YOUR services, while sending them a regular letter is completely legal... I wouldn't consider a personal letter that goes like "Hi Jox, we noticed your business blah blah... and we would like to offer this and that. Please contact me to discuss"
That's what business is all about. Without marketing - no business. It's not spam if you make it right!

its only spam if it has to do with your penis or your mortgage.
