how do you protect against loosing data? do you back up and store off site, is that overkill?
i recently realized that if my computer was stolen how much stuff i would loose.

cd-rw's. partition your hd.
and it's "lose" not "loose" unless you are "loose" of course.

I worry about the same thing. Still using the same computer I got in 1998, with many upgrades of course, but I worry.

i would think cds would be a pain to back up on. i would have a million.
i do have a secondary hard drive with contains all my stuff. but what if someone stole my computer or i had a fire that would fry.

then an external hd and carry it around everywhere.
or buy an ipod. ;)

my friend has a software company that lets you remotely backup your computer, and can be restored qucik and easily in most cases.
like $25/mo though.

get a 60GB firewire pocket drive or something... use an automated backup software, so all you have to do is plug it in each day (or maybe once a week?), it does the backups as scheduled, then unplug and take home.

i have an external usb2 hd..
it was about 45euros (same in dollares i think) plus HD ofcourse - works great for me..
