ever had a referral that seemed like an easy slam dunk?
then comes 9 revisions cause the client never had a vision or their shit strait from day one - copy, images etc..
its like once you get the ball rolling, they are suddenly the experts, and have ten different ways to critique the shit you tried your hardest to decipher and develop for their dumbass idea.
change this and that.
i'm like, asshole - i am copying and pasting the shit you gave me.
get yer shit together and copy strait before you require a designer.could you imagine getting an oil change and asking the the mechanic, 'while yer at it, i dont like the color of my car, make it blue, and fix the brakes and mix in a tune up.'
aaaaghhhh
*flips bird at said client

I feel you BonSeff -
I've had a few of those... but watch out. If you want those kinds of refferals to stop, don't develop the reputation of being the fool that will put up with those kinds of clients. Don't be the guy people refer that stuff to...
I don't do it often, but I have fired clients before.
- paulrand0
I feel your pain
- BonSeff0
lol mr. rand!
na but gravity, i really like the people who referred me.
its a pisser. i guess i should get back to work. a rep is a huge deal.
but i still hate idiot clientsand i hear you gravity, but how can you really screen a referral? they all seem peachy at first. then turn to shit!
:P
- gravityroom0
I know - its a drag...
2 things - 1 - ask the refferer first then 2 - try to screen the client
If it looks like a mess - I'll tell them I'm too busy. I'm just jaded because I've had too many of those the last few years...
Hey Bon - are you on your own now or do you work for a studio?
- paulrand0
in solidarity,
I also flip the bird at said client

im inhouse right now. its a good place. i help manage 5 brands. there are 3 of us. we are completely swamped every month.
what about you? how did the press check go yesterday?
- gravityroom0
I pulled everything off the press and we had to remake the plates, but it looks fabulous now.
If you're a DSVC member, you'll get my poster in the mail this week. If not - come to the Oct. 1 meeting and pick one up!
- BonSeff0
did you go film or direct to plate?
weve done a few direct to plates with ussery. but overall the film way is so much sharper
- gravityroom0
Direct to plate on this deal. I know what you mean though. But I will say that it looks great. Those folks are pros. It a big poster that went on Cougar uncoated - it came out better than I expected even.
I did get a tour of the Heidelberg while we were remaking the plates. That bad boy is amazing...
- BonSeff0
ah the cougar. we use that a lot
i'll just snag one of your posters on tues when we are on press
:P
jk,
tell me though, is the dsvc mostly designers, or the dreaded marketing types and copy writers with art fag attitudes?
- gravityroom0
LOL! No man - its just mostly designers. I'd have nothing to do with it if it were art homos. October 1 is WDDG - it will be great. That's what the poster is a promo for.
I think our delivery is Tues, but you might ask if they had any left lying around... Ussery is using it as a promo as well - they had 100 posters on the order for their own use.
But WDDG isn't too slack and it will be a great presentation. You should come.
- BonSeff0
alrighty man. I'm sold.
i'll def make the meetup.
cheers brother
- gravityroom0
Cool man - I'm going to remind your ass when it gets closer!
- raybolger20
yeah-I had one of those clients not too long ago. What works for me now is letting the client know how many rounds of edit/changes they get before I charge them more $$. Be firm-like your mechanic example don't let 'em walk over you.
good luck
