nice, but still expensive...

They are not that expensive. Try to get a pc with the same or similiar specs and the prices will come out to be very close.
- mitee_0
or....gasp! less??
Dell:
http://configure.us.dell.com/del…Total: $2759 with no DVI out, no 80211G support, no 80 gig HD option, didnt see USB 2.0, no firewire 800, or gigabyte ethernet.
Apple:$2599 cool looking machine, free iApps (i had to add extra stuff apps on Dell), plus all the other stuff the Dell is missing. And lets not forget MY deciding factor:
OSX. ill use a tandy running OSX VS Win anytime (please, so PCvsMac, just my personal pref). i just want to help squash the myth the Macs are more expensive.

I guess you didn't look hard enough. The 80GB option is there (80GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive).
In the technical specs, under "I/O Ports" it says "2-USB (Universal Serial Bus) 2.0 compliant 4-pin connectors."
802.11g is supported, you just need to buy the card (Dell TrueMobile™ 1400 DualBand WLAN (802.11a/b/g, 54Mbps) miniPCI Card ), just like you have to buy the Airport Extreme Card.
And your total of $2759 probably came with the 1.7 GHz processor and 1 GB of ram, but you forgot to mention that.
- mitee_0
actually, no, the powerbook has the airport card BUILT in, i had to switch out 2 slots on the Dell ram (256) for ONE 512, to match the powerbook. yeah, sorry i missed the USB 2 option. so, to MATCH the 80 HD, the 512 ONE slot RAM, and the BUILT in wireless it would be actually MORE expensive. Thanks for helping my argument. and yes, i did pick the 1.7. Apples G4 at 1.25 will match or outpace the pentium.

nice job mitee_. kill all the myths that "mac are expensive". Simply not true.

where the trolls?

the 15" w/superdrive
is on my wish list.Apple laptops are full of the best components. and they are priced pretty competitivly with the best pc laptops like the sonys and toshibas.
the attention to detail is amazing
you get what you pay for.

Again, you choose to ignore what's plainly written. Assuming the $2599 powerbook you previously mentioned is the 15" preconfigured one, it comes with 2 sticks of 256MB SO-DIMMS. It's the first dropdown, right under MEMORY.
And by the way, no where did I say PCs are better then MACs, or vice versa. I just thought the prices are expensive, just like I think the price for the 1.7Ghz Dell is expensive.

lol here we go again...PC rocks
- mitee_0
you are looking at the same apple website i am, right? well, if you look again, it come with 1 (thats ONE) 512 ram stick. The other slot is empty for adding more RAM. This option was actually MORE $ on the dell site (1 512 VS 2 256 on Dell).

15' superdrive model. and i do realize you never said PC / Mac, but you did say that it was too expensive, which it is not compared to a similar configured PC. if you think the PC is also too expensive, then i suggest getting a new career. (assuming you are in the visual arts biz). im done with this thread. (unless more FUD is spread :)
- mitee_0
this thread was never intended to be PC/Mac, just correcting the wrongs.....

$2599. 2 (that's TWO) 256 so-dimms. $100 more if you want 1 (that's ONE) 512 ram stick. You have to select (i.e. change) it.
You aren't correcting anything.
- unformatted0
512mb ddr333 sdram - 2x256 so-dimms
2, TWO, TO, TOO DIMMs it does say it comes with.
- mitee_0
i stand corrected.
- unformatted0
you do.
- motokiss0
i have one just bought it, its a nice machine but the screen gets abused alot and teh batterey loves to get sucked up. The only problem with this shit is its so fuckin expensive to purchase shit for it IE a mouse, air port blah blah blah but its great
- err0
Whoa, the new 15"er? where did you buy it?
I went to the apple store and they didn't have any! They didn't know when they will get one either. I wanna see it before I make my decision between the 12" and the 15"
Any suggestions? Im stuck between being able to get the 15" w/ a 80gb 5400 rpm HD (an option only available on the 15")
Or the 12" with a 4200rpm HD and a xhitier video card.
