hello all > looking for a way to batch trace bitmaps in flash. anyone done this?
i've got an imported image sequence and if i could batch convert them using trace bitmap it would save quite a bit of time. thanks for the help.

hopefully Flash MX 2004 has this. It has been on Macromedia 'wishlist' for ages...

ok new question in regard to tracing bitmaps . . i was under the impression if i traced these out and deleted the crap i didn't need, it would decrease my .swf file size . . . but apparently it's getting LARGER! what? can someone explain? any tutorials/suggestions on keeping file size/load time down when using image sequences?

depends on how detailed the art is. Your best best is to delete as much detail from the images as possible in PS first before importing into flash.
- unfittoprint0
tracing it doesn't necessarily make the file smaller. sometimes when an image is very detailed you might want to keep it as a bitmap. or at least lose some of the details while tracing it...

You have taken the old .bmps out, haven't you?
- mrdobolina0
If he has traced them it shouldnt matter if he took the old bmp's out. they have been traced and the old images wont be exported.

thanks for all the suggestions people! i'm working on filling the object with the paint bucket, as i have heard this makes a big difference, too.
nairn: what do you mean taken out the old bitmaps? out of the library? or out of each frame? when you trace the bitmap, doesn't that get rid of the bitmap image on the frame? and when you export, it doesn't use unused crap in the library, right?
thanks again!

you're right about the library lefton.

word. thanks. this thing keeps getting bigger, not smaller.
pissing me off because it's 5-6 seconds of video and it all has a chroma key, making my subject one solid shape . . i just don't understand why it's outputting such a large .swf . . .

why dont you leave it as video and get a copy of sorenson squeeze...it compresses stuff like crazy and maintains really good quality...it is also made to integrate video with flash

Get an intern.
- mrdobolina0
do you have adobe streamline? run a batch on your frames in streamline then import them as an .ai sequence in flash.

i have sorrenson, an intern, and streamline. haven't tried sorrenson (but i will) and streamline seems to work like butt.
thanks againnnnnn. oh, and also, why is my video 720 x 480 but not filling up my stage which is 500 x 400? something wacky within my movie clip? should i not be doing this inside a movie clip? didn't think it would matter but something is screwy . . .
