This is RIAA propoganda. Artists dont make a lot of money of record sales. Most of them use the money they earn to pay back the money they owe to the record labels.
Truth is most artists make they’re money touring. So if you want to support the artists go to a concert.

jesus this thing is fucked up. I don't know about in the States, but in the UK over the counter music sales are up and alot of this is being put down to people downloading 1 or 2 tracks and going out and buying the CDs after. There are quite a few artists giving tracks away on-line. I got 4 or 5 tracks from Tim Burgess' solo album from his own site.
