I recommend eating a well balanced breakfast seeing as it is the most important meal of the day.

If I were in town for just the day and staying at my favorite place Swann house ( www.swannhouse.com) and after getting ... money .. i would jet to the Hirschorn ( circular museum on the Smithsonian mall) and peep Ron Muecks' ( ex hollywood FX guy ) wild piece( peepin large ) in the basement and the video installation ( cant remember artists name ) while laughing at the stagnant work of Nan jun Paik also in the basement but appropriately close to the toilets ..

Then i would ride on over to the Dupont Circle area grab a cap at the starbucks on the circle and visit the Phillips collection( www.phillipscollection.org ) .. checking their whole collection and the building as well..( this one you have to pay to see but well worth it.. while in the Dupont area there are several galleries farther up Connecticut Ave on R street across from Teaism .. which is where i would stop for a pee break assuming there is at least one female in your group or that you too have a dixie cup for a bladder .. i would then after perusing these fine establishments stride on up Connecticut a block and grab some french food at Bistro du coin ( corner of 18th/Conn) or try the relatively new vietnamese restaurant across the corner on 18th.

There are several galleries in Georgetown on Wisconsin street at both ends of Gtown ( either side of M street )

.. or if the sequence was reversed Dupont Circle (Phillips collection) then the mall... I would exit the navy memorial subway ( 7th/ Pennsylvania ave ) then grab a cap at the Starbucks there.. slide over to the Smithsonian mall peep the Hirschorn and weather permitting the sculpture garden with the sweet Rodin sculptures "Balzac" and "Burgers of Calais" peepin the big ass feet .. then stroll up towards the Wash. Monument through the botanical gardens across for the carousel to the Sackler Gallery and peep some Asian art .. checking to see which Yoshitoshi prints are on display .. I would then slide/stroll ( bee gees back ground music and all ) towards the Starbucks ( 7th and Penn) right at the Navy Memorial and walk up 7th and look down the first left hand street toward 8th and think about stopping at Teaism again or walk to the next corner and get some tapas at Jaleo( 7th/ E street).. if i was really more interested in spending money i might go to the sante fe styled Red Sage ..or asian influenced Ten penh ( tenpenh.com) .. george carvel( the bald republican)'s restaurant on pennsylvania ave. If i where a total carnivore I would go to the Capital Grille ( Penn Ave ) and have some charded bovine carcass..

if i were totally adventurous and wanted to buy some great design books i would find 1911 eye street ( I street ) and Franz Bader..look for the stylish older woman with the german accent "Sabine"

oh and if it were going to be thursday of this week Sept 4 i would just stay home and avoid the mess on the mall and the whole traffic nightmare of the party on the mall for the first football game of the season.. or maybe go to Dragonfly (1215 connecticut) and drink and stare at some trendy people and have late night sushi.. did i mention drink..

    have fun..
