Even though my machine is absolutely clean, i have somehow managed to send out hundreds and hundreds of e-mails with the Sobig.F virus attached from my work e-mail.
My inbox is ffilled with responses from angry people asking why the hell im sending them viruses... plus, i think i've reveived 120 Mailer-Deamons today saying the address i tried e-mailing doesn't exist. So if anyone on here received something from me, I apologise. Seems like it's sending out viruses to people I have e-mailed before and people in my address book.
Anyone else experiencing this? And, if anyone around knows that tubby creator of this virus (yeah i saw a pic of him in the papers), I now declare war against him.

i still love you.

damn that sucks dude! I sent ou maybe 50 - 60 of an older virus before I got wind of what was happening - that was fun with clients...
- jox0
thanks bio :D
yes, the clients are the really dangerous ones, because most of the dumb ones think "I" did it, while friends and NT people understand this wasn't something i did to jeopardize the friendship...

this virus collects the adress book contacts and spreads allover himself using randomly the contacts in the from field- I've received mailer demon mails from people I don't have on my list.
- kodap0
so it means the virus was instaled on someone's infected machine that had my contact.

If anybody uses Outlook or Outlook expess put a contact in your address book called
"!0000"
It's meant to confuse a virus trying to read your contacts. Not sure if it works but I've had a couple of mass mailing viruses before and it never managed to send itself to anybody in my address book... so there you go.

It doesnt mean that you have necessarily sent them. We get these too, and we have confirmed that we arent sending any.
The virus fakes the sender address...which it can gather from your friends and colleagues who have insecure Windows systems.
Why does the Media still call these 'computer' viruses? They are actually 'Windows' viruses...
- jox0
so basically, the sender is my addy, even though it's from somebody else?
That still puts me in an akward position! Argh!
- ribit0
It shouldn't.... Anyone who has read about this virus should understand that all the sender addresses are faked... so there's no way to know who is to blame.
Well, actually there is... Bill Gates. Forward the complaints to him.

well, problem is , I'm working with some really dumb clients (I'm sure you all have a few of those) who can't seem to understand why i've given them viruses and even less when i try to explain it to them.
Think old people. Think pre-computer age.

Maybe you can find a news article or technical advisory webpage about this and send it to them?
People (especially beginners) should get virus/spam protection... I have two email accounts with a good filtering system at the server, and one without... it's amazing the difference it makes...

I've deleted about 300 emails, about 10 percent of those saying that I sent them. No agree people, but lots of 'Unable to deliver, virus detetected'.
It's a clever virus, according to MT it's the worst they've seen. Thankfully, Norton had a fix for it almost immediately. Go to their site for really detailed explanations.
Ha, send your clients there and they will most likely never turn their computer on again!!
