independent photoshop G5 benchmarks:

not too bad, especially using the slowest, single proc. G5

So is it the fastest home computer in the whole world or not? Hmmm.. not.

That's marketing spin.
But then again - we haven't seen the Dual 2Ghz.
It'll probably cream everyone on all floating point stuff and be close on integer stuff.
Regardless - it kicks ass.

well if it takes a dual id like to see a dual p4 at work. i want more power for my buck. Im simply not intetested in paying for expensive tooling.

You are not reading the results correctly. It shows how a single 1.6ghrz G5 keeps up with a 3.0 ghrz AMD/Intel chipset. A Dual processor machine beats the dogshit out of a dual Xeon. Give credit where it's due, they have a superior product right now.

here we go again

I wasn't trying to start a MAC/PC thing. I"m just talking brass-tax. PC's have their advantages too.

sorry I was stirring shit. I own a pc and a mac and would be happy toi have a shiny g5 on my desk. i doesnt matter to me as long as the machine is reliable and doesnt crash for no reason whatsoever.

both run linux superbly, so i don't see what the argument is?
:)

The day that Linux is a viable development option couldn't come soon enough.

it already is. i gave up on windows a while back. i use it at work everyonce in a while.
the only thing honestly keeping anyone here from making the switch is probably a) no adobe or macromedia and b) the myth that it's too 'technical' and hard to use...
it's not. kde and gnome (and the other major desktop environments) can mimic windows and mac desktops now so closely that it's a non-issue at this point.
once macromedia/adobe port their software over from mac osx's bsd kernel (darwin) the game is over for windows in the design and production world.
you can already run them, albeit buggy as hell sometimes, through wine and other emulators...

KDE and Gnome can mimic Mac?
Look at the subtle little things in the interface that help you get your work done.. Linux is still so far behind there.
- sparker0
like what. i'm not thoroughly experienced with mac like i am with linux/unix...what are some of the little things?
- Creon0
Well, the P4 does do the Lens Flares faster than the G5....so maybe it is time to switch to windows :P
