Yeah - you'll love Cuba - its a nicley run little joint with a real mom and pop feel. Those people fleeing to the states don't get it.

as far as getting there.. should i go through Mexico or Canada?

a friend of mine went a few months ago. he and his girlfriend flew into cancun, then caught a connection to havana. apparently you can book this pretty easily through a canadian travel agent.

"get there gefore the US gets there"
Huh?
Your about a century late.
There are some foreign (canadian) resorts there where you can stay in moderate comfort. You can go by way of Mexico or Bahamas or the DC.

kidnapped!
LOL
that's just brilliant.yes, you'll need to go through canada or mexico.
i know a couple of people who have sail there.do not use credit cards or atm cards. you don't want to be fined for breaking the embargo. hefty fines too, for up to $10,000
there's people who go on educational tours.

that's legal, so you won't get fined.

I don't know where you are, but going through mexico is really easy.
Don't pay attention to the people who don't think there's anything to see there. Go.
If you can help it, don't go with a female companion, because, there's more than enough women there.
But even ignoring that, it's a pretty interesting experience.

Apply for a research/study visa (know someone who did that successfully 2x) or go through Mexico.
Can you go through Canada with a US passport? I'd be suspicious of getting nabbed by US and charged for breaking the embargo.

I got there from Namibia. I went into the Cuban Embassy in Namibia and spoke Spanish with them, they liked it. They could care fucking less that I was American. They said, where you gonna' stay, I was like Hotel, they said, ok pay us. I was like ok. I flew tp Spain and then from Madrid, Spain to Cuba. The thing is that no commercial US flights go to Cuba. You can fly from Montreal I think quite easily or even Mexico or Bahamas and Bermuda.

Here in Mexico they sell "weekend packages" for like $300 bucks and include round trip, and accomodations. If you're a U.S. citizen, once you get there, you can tell them not to stamp your passport and they won't.

yeah kidnappin' americans was common in the 50's
nah for real cuba is tight specially the fine shorties
- witch0
thanks, very helpful

mmm, the shorties are so fine. Beware...most of them in Havana are prostitutes. I didnt know that when at first but figured it out later when they wanted $. Prolly the cleanest country out there tho. Everyone on the island gets manditory HIV and STD checks 2wice a year. If they get caught with something they are sent to a special "hospital".
Easiest way to get there is a straight flight from canada. Or you can go through Mexico or the Bahamas. Canada seems to be the best way cuz you only have to take 1 plane.

someone mentioned not to use credit cards. can I use dollars or is there a problem to exchange?
- Exalted0
They LOVE American dollars there. Bring plenty of singles (dollar bills). Like $200 in singles. If you spend money outside of the tourist areas you'll get a shit load of cuban change if you pay for something with a large bill. One American dollar is equal to 22 cuban dollars.
