Any of you guys make your own canvases? I'm thinking about it because I want to do some large scale paintings. Any other cheap alternatives?

maybe like 8x4 feet. My old art teacher makes the out of 2x4s. With a crossbar in the middle. I havent talked to him in a while though and it kind of sounds hard.

I have made some 2m*1m canvases. The hard part is making sure the fabric is tight. "Pliers" come in handy when tightening the canvas.
You also need to make sure that the wood used for the frame does not bend.

i make my own. it's pretty easy, but definitely get canvas pliers to help you stretch the canvas properly.

oh and as for alternatives, i also paint on masonite mounted on stretcher bars. cheap, but can get heavy depending on the size of the canvas and amount of paint you use.
