I am on a Dual 533 G4 with 768 MB of ram. 30 Gig hard drive with 10 gigs available. I have a 32 MB gforce video card on 768 cable modem on OS X.2.2.
I have this problem where my mac decides it's to tired for me right now and runs super slow. I have Illustrator, Mail, IE, TextEdit, iCal and iTunes open. I have 1 file open in illustrator which is 112 MB. I understand that the file is pretty large, but my system should be able to handle it. Right now it is shlepping (sp) along.
Anyone have these issues? If I should defrag, what should I use to do so? Any recommendations?
This is getting on my nerves and I am about to chuck this damn thing and start to use my damn laptop for some print stuff.
And please refrain from the whole mac vs. pc crap. I'm not about to get a new system and I would hate to do print work on a laptop.
Thanks ladies and gents.

have you tried clearing out your PRAM? i don't know if it helps (i do it to mine), but i think it makes me sound worldly to suggest it.

PRAM?
You have to let me in on what that is.
Any suggestions that anyone might have on a smoother mac experience would help.

restart your computer, hold down P + R+ Opt + Cmd and let it chime/restart like 5 or 6 times. then let go after the 5 or 6th time and let it boot up normally.

Zap the ram as in defrag that mug or do as mayo says and restart it the way he mentioned?
I hate this crap. It makes me feel as if I need a new system.
I will be getting a G5 soon. Still I want this one to run smooth.

Where do I find virtual memory on my mac?
It is running a bit smoother right now. But not because I have done anything. It has it's moments.

on the desktop top go to the apple-control panels-memory

Yeah mayo but I don't think zapping the ram will solve the speed problem. Usually a cure for nagging problems when extension conflicts don't seem to be the problem etc...
But hey, I'm a pc head so what do I know :)

there is a pc sale^ hope everything works out later

Some one please help
Where are all the mac freaks when you need them?
- mayo0
i gave you my suggestion. did you try it?
- freshmode0
MAYO
No because I don't have the time to restart. I have a deadline of this afternoon and don't have any time besides the time I use to ask you guys how to fix this. I need some suggestions so I can try a group of things tonight when I get a chance to fix this.
But thank you for your help. I will do so.
Any defrag programs? I think that might be an issue. How often do you folks defrag? I installed os 10 about 5 months ago. Is it time for a tune up?

there is no virtual memory in osx, maybe try repairing your permissions.
