is the only way you can make wavy overlapping 2 demensional solids in after effects with the forge freeform plugin?
the look im trying to pull off is
like the rainbow at the end of the mk12 reel

don't know what the forge freedom plug-in is but, just a guess, I think you can do that by making 3d paths for the layers to follow...maybe?

no because sd layers wont bend or curve around a path in AFX

i think it's totally done in 3d, the end of the line is also in perspective... maybe simulate the effect with vector paint or maybe 3d stroke (trapcode plug in)

trapcode doesnt allow geometric shapes just paths =(

use track mattes, they are your friend.

track mattes wont solve the inital delema of making the 2d solid ripple and bend in 3d space
im surprized no one here uses forge freeform

In 3d because im pretty sure they did it there, create a path, extrude a super narrow rect. along the path, map a thin rainbow along it and tile on a horizontal axis, move your camera around, and presto! cinema4d does this well....

yeah, some of it was surely done in 3D Studio MAX (or similar). AE plugins may have good 3D possibilities but there are limits...

elements surrounding said rainbow = illustrator
composite of said rainbow and other scene elements = after effects
