Does anyone have any info on wireless broadband? I'm not talking about just a wireless ethernet for home use. Do cell phone companies or other companies offer wireless internet connection--say in New York City? If so, what are some good companies and how reliable is the service?

You can get GPRS internet access through heaps of cellphones and heaps of operators worldwide, with global roaming too... but it's only around 56k speeds... how fast do you want to go?

or you could find a WiFi hotspot (you'd need to subscribe to a service)...

no you don't ribit... i'm sitting in a courtyard in San Jose, CA with free access right now... in the sun with giant chess board next to me. favorite place to work (with free wireless anyway)

There's wireless broadband here, its 512kb/s decent speeds, a friend had it from an ISP, but its like 80 a month, which is just nuts. I think its an ISP specific service for the most part. The down fall is antenna location affects the speed.

there's a company called http://www.monetmobile.com that specializes in mobile broadband. The areas seem to be small (and from what i remember, built in smaller towns to beta the service), but who knows.. maybe another company similar to this is in NY?

Tmobile has a good plan with a wireless data card... Tmobile gives you unlimited data transfer
Sprint... Verizon... they all have wireless internet via their network... sprint acctually has decent speeds 200k and even bursts up to 800k... verizon's are around 100k or so..
just check out the plans on their pages.. and at the bottem of them they have Wireless Data packages...
