Just saw bjork at red rocks last night - pretty damn amazing. but she only performed for an hour and a half - whats the deal with bands playing the absolute minimum - seems like it is happening more and more lately. I realize that there may be vocal strain issues - but i am a little bummed nonetheless. thoughts?

did the venue set the play-time. was it a 'close early' venue.
I fancy the pants off bjork.....

Maybe that's the point - leave you wanting more instead of playing until you're tired of it and are ready to leave anyway.
Besides, how is 1.5 hours bare minimum? I think that's a pretty nice length of time to watch someone.
I do live sound for a living (among other things), and you'd be surprised how many bands play 30 minute sets these days. It's a growing trend to play shorter sets. Especially among the garage-rock ilk.
I also play in a band myself, and unless it's a particularly special occasion (like a show we're playing in our hometown, Austin, in October -- our first non-SXSW show there in over two years) we never go over 40 minutes. I know we're no Bjork, but I guarantee you that we sell more merchandise at shows with a 40 minute set than we do with a 1+ hour set.

Welcome to the summer of 2003, huge wait, ovrepriced concessions, short concerts and way over-priced tickets.

i get what your saying autonoma, but when a band has the material and i am paying 60 bones a pop it feels like i should get more, but i guess my expectations are too high.
"Besides, how is 1.5 hours bare minimum?"
i feel that if a band has the material 1.5 hours is the minimum amount of time that they can take us on thier journey.
I think is different if you have a few bands and the musical expereince is spread out a little more - cool - 45 minute sets. but she just had some emo dude with a mondolin warm us up.

radiohead is next at red rocks and i have a feeling it will be more than 1.5.

yeah but RedRocks alone, I was once there on a field trip.

I think my opinion on live shows might be a little biased and jaded seeing as how I have to watch 20+ bands play a week with at least 85% of those bands being quite bad. May have affected my attention span a bit, to say the least.

I saw radiohead a couple of days ago in Montreal. Good show but lots and lots of waiting in the sun and hurting in the knees.
