Anyone knoes best way to bring an MPG movie into AE. Should i first convert it with QT? If so what would be best file format (and settings inc. codec) to bring it AE?

haha downloaded the beef didn't ya?
anyway, for mp4 and such you better convert first in QT Pro indeed.
AE doesn't like some of them formats very much.

depends on your output too.
generally, convert to either animation or dv (pal/ntsc).
qtpro is excellent btw.

it looks like converting it to PAL/NTSC adds lots of artifacts.

dv doesnt play back that well on computers as it runs almost in a 'fake' way using software (unless you have an expensive video card that interprets dv footage).
to make it look better, go to the movs video properties in qt and 'enable high quality'.
also- going from mpg to any format will be lossy.

on a mac with QT-mpg1 should just import int AE. you might want to export the soundtrack separately, though (use media cleaner) otherwise it will cause problems.
mpg2 should be converted into a lossless format (like quicktime animation) in order to maintain max quality. Media cleaner should do the job. however, the file sizes are going to be huge. again, better to import soundtrack separately.
