We received a PDF from a third party and wanted to somehow check its resolution to make sure it is Press ready. Is there a way that you can find this out about a PDF?

you need some kinda flightcheck software.

Good point Mont. Will try.
We have Preflight Pro? You mean run it through flight check and it should pick up resolution?

the file size is a pretty good indication if you have made a few with distiller.
if its 8.5 x 11 and is like 3megs its a hi rez, if its 60K its a low rez

you will have to run it through synapse, a pitsopt type program, and it will you a breakdown of every file

yeah, you should be able to generate a report.

Grabbed a handful of PDFs I know I made with Press settings. All of them come back with very different effective resolutions. Must take the press settings it was done at and somehow factor in the size of the ad to generate the eff. rez.
I will look for synapse on the web.

what do you mean they came back with different resolutions? Press ready pdf's should all be created at 2400dpi.

They are but for some reason, when I click on the eff. rez tab of Prefight they all show up at different dpi's.
Weird. And my Press settings in Distiller are default. Haven't touched em.
