Anyone ever use one of these for sound sampling?
http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/…
I've got my eye on the ICD-ST10 because it is the only one that can sample at 44.1 kHz stereo, all the others can only do 16kHz mono at best.
Opinions?

Never used one, but those look great. I'd love to have one to use for songwriting and maybe even recording live shows. Not too expensive, either.

I'm sure that little ditty is nice and works well depending on what you want to do with it though. I use a SONY MD player from 1999 and it works really well, but then again I have a really nice expensive MIC hooked up to it. I also use a SONY DAT which works a hell of a lot better but is big and bulky and you cannot secretly record people like I like to do and then use their vocals in songs and projects. lol! With that being said, you really don't have to get on that is 44.1 kHz stereo, if you know you way around a nice audio editor such as Sound Forge from http://www.sonicfoundry.com E-mail me if you have any serious questions, I can help you.

what I mean is that you can record in lower ranges and change the KHz after you import into an editor. Quite simple actually.

though the quality suffers of course
depends on how serious you are about it really.

well not if you use Sound Forge properly, you can record at any level and fix it up. Depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend.

thats like saying you could take a digital photo at 72dpi, then blow it up to 300 for print using photoshop.

no it isn't, you can record with anything and boost it's levels, etc. Why do you think all the home recordings people do sound like shit and the studios ones so compressed and smooth?

in fact you can record with a tape player and line it into a computer and make that recording sound digital and clean at all the right levels, even though analog once.
