im using a umax astra 4700, i hate this plastic box more than anything...with every scan i get dammm colour stripes
went to the umax site to downlaod the new driver (which appearenlty fixes colour striping)...downloaded the new version (1.0.1) unstuffed it, and it turns out that its the old version (1.0.0) which im already using!!
damm piece of shit...ive had enough!!
anyone got the new driver by any chance or any suggestions on how i can stop this striping? need to scan some photos in asap ughghghghhhh

I had that same issue with a umax scanner about 4 years ago. Chucked that shit.
Went out and got an hpscanjet. Everything seems to work fine with this one.
I think once that happens, it's to late to salvage...
good luck.
fresh!

umax blows, especially scsi. get an epson or hp

don't use umax drivers with osx, use a program called vue scan (i think thats the name)
it maybe a tad slower, but your images should look better.
mine did, i've got a 6450 - only reason I got that was because I needed a firewire card and it was as cheap to get the scanner thrown in... fast though!!

I had a UMAX blow up when I had it plugged into the power source - the bulb just fried and stunk up the whole place.... They did send me a new one though.
