Someone was just shot and killed right outside of my window while I was working.
I was typing away on my computer in my office when I heard 4-5 shots fly not more than 20 feet away from where I'm sitting. By the time I got to the window the injured guy was crawling into the alley and the car was gone. A few minutes later I heard his friends yelling that he wasn't breathing.

where the hell do you work?

Damn.
A similar thing happened to me about 4 years ago. 2 banks across from each other, across from me were robbed. After a long process the guy ran and the police shot him in the middle of the street.
Its a strange thing to see someone die in front of your eyes. couldnt sleep.

I'm at home, and I live on the west side of Chicago in what I thought was a fairly safe neighborhood.

thats crazy.
when i was a kid.. my next door neighbor shit himself inthe head with a shot gun. he was waiting for someone to come home. when they did.. he was sitting right infront of the door.. and pulled the trigger. he went..... everywhere.
i was too young to know what happened to him. i was quite attached to that guy. he let me sit on his motorcycle.

A friend of mine hung himself in his mother's garage on Mother's Day. We hadn't been friends since childhood, and he did this while in his early 20s. I never knew he was so far gone.

jesus christ. thats shitty. i have a worse story.. but its not really something to post.
i hope you dont get too wacked out by that driveby. rent a comedy movie and get some pizza. watch something or hang out with someone who will make you laugh so you can get it off your mind. its not the best thing to be to sleep thinking about.

dude, how far west in Chitown? I am at Ashland and Chicago. I just moved here from the east coast. You are freaking me out.

I live on Wrightwood Ave (between Diversey and Fullerton) just west of Pulaski.
I can only last another year here, and that's only because I just signed a year's lease at a new apartment in Lakeview -- a generally "safe" part of town.
I have a friend who's leaving town because her boyfriend's so traumatized after witnessing an extreme case of road rage. Two men were yelling after a minor traffic accident. One got out, approached the other's driver-side window and shot him in the head.
I just went to Barnes & Nobles to look for a magazine, and on my way home saw two cop cars fly through an intersection, then screech to a halt, leap out of their cars and chase a bunch of guys on foot. Then, I was apparently not going fast enough for the people behind me, so they sped around me and threw a plastic cup full of some liquid out of their window onto my windshield.
There's danger in the air tonight.
I overheard one of the guys outside earlier telling the cops that the shooter was driving an electric-blue Astro. Right when I got home from the book store, I got out of my car only to see an electric-blue Astro pulling around the corner onto my street. They drove by slowly and kept going.
The lights on our street have been out for over a week, so I couldn't see a liscense plate.

Crazy ish, I thought that stuff only happened in gangsta rap videos. I blame the crazy weapon laws. And gangsta rap. I'd try not to be alone tonight.

The thing is, I don't really live in a bad neighborhood. What I mean is it's not at all ghetto. Just middle-class families and such. Usually very quiet and safe.
I remember the night after I moved here from Austin, Texas, I saw an undercover cop chasing a man down the middle of the highway, both had their guns drawn. This kind of shit NEVER happens in lil'ol' Austin.
