My grandmother often keeps newspaper clipping of things that involve me, my friends and generally anything she thinks might interest me. Well the other day, I was passed a newspaper clipping about a website that had just won "international acclaim" from some international competition.
So there's me thinking, it must be quite good. So I open IE and type in this url http://www.coventryscouts.org.uk…
What is happening to the world. When sites like this are receiving awards and newspaper coverage!?!?
I think I'll quit my efforts right now and go back to using Frontpage Express!
Rant over. Thank you.

thats one of those farsical ones though... where you then have to pay for a certificate

OMG Do not tell me they wrote about winning a Golden Web Award.
Are you serious? Is that the award down at the bottom of the page, and that's what got a write up?
Excuse me while I vomit and then slit my throat.

Incredible!! Someone should bookmark that page and post it every time someone mentions the golden web awards and if it's a respectible award. The Hot News animation on that page just blew me away...fing amazing skillz. :O

There should be a law against it!

I'll try and find the source of the article though it can't possibly be a quality newpaper.

the content might be alright... Just don't want to look like a weirdo looking at boy scout sites at work!

Thanks London Boy for posting that. It's evidence that the good ol' "spirit of the inevitable" within the WWW is alive and kicking, and validity that mankind just keeps being had.
I'm so sick right now.

Must be a piss take.

9 times out of 10 when a website gets in the paper like that, its becasue someone sharp wrote a strong enough press release to make it sound like interesting news and sent it to the paper.
Media typically doesn't go after features on great design. Someone had a bad site and great PR skills. They paid for a dopey award called someone with clout at the paper and voilla - this thread begins.

actually gravity, I think that's just a little tiny town paper, they probably have all sorts of info of things around town, a very "everyone knows everyone" type of community.
Papers like that put the most mundane things in for people to read, that to people outside those cities and people's live would be like reading the phone book: boring and pointless.

Well, consider the source then.

This is like the local newspaper in Mackay, Queensland, Australia, where 'news' photos include things like my parents out having dinner in a local cafe.
Of course they got out-done by the visit of Russel Crowe and new wife to the local Thai restaurant.. what news that was! The news story featured full details of what they ordered... excitement!

I think that award site has a form where the autoreply to the submit button is "Congrats, Your site kicks ass, you win. Now give us some money and we'll send you a trophy to put on your desk"....
