this pdf i sent a printer when they print it, all the points on a path print with straight lines connecting them (instead of a curved path) so all the type is way messed up. they blame it on me, but it prints fine on my computer and another in the office. any idea what is going on and how i can fix it?

hmm, i've run into pdf errors before myself but not that one. i know this won't help you now, but ever since, i include a proof (usually a polaproof) with my pdf on a cd to prove the file rips correctly. there are some true idiots at some of the pubs.

dont send printers pdf's.

why?

exactly.
is it an illustrator file, pr ps file?
just send that. pdf's tend to get jacked and should be used for proofing and web only imho

i agree, i dont ever send pdf's but if youve absolutly have to the only thing i have noticed that helps with that (since it seems almost random) is just using ill 10 (dont know if you have it.)
also maybe check that all your paths are closed and every once and a while copying out of one doc and into a new sometimes does the trick. dont know why. maybe gets corrupt.

If it's from illustrator, DO NOT export/save as as a PDF.
Print to a post script file, then distill with the correct distiller settings.

i did end up sending them eps, cause they were being all retarded. i just did not want to cause then i had to send the million image files that were linked to it

weird problem, PDFs rock but you have to have a good technical know how with the settings to make sure everythings going to work. I see both ends of the spectrum, working at a print press during the day recieving other designers pdfs (many many with errors, that'd be fixed if they went by our specs) and then at night and on the side working freelance and getting my stuff printed elsewhere... lots of problems with color profiles and fonts are what we get. Sometimes the screen font will work but the printer font won't and boom it all goes nasty.... just trouble shoot you're bound to find the problem....
