a client gave me a list of sites he likes, so I could do "similar"...
the funny thing is that they all look the same, specially the first two

"originallity" is a word that doesn't exist among clients. Neither does "copyright", some of them would be more than happy if you just print screened and changed the name on top.

i think the client doesn't want me to copy them, it was just a reference.
I just find it funny that the Dior site and the Tiffany site look almos exactly the same, and the others are not very far either

It has happened to me several times, that clients have suggested sites, then I go and do something completely different and they love it, so their "suggestions" doesn't really mean anything in most cases. But good luck! :)

we just had a client who gave us one site as reference. we did about three designs that were similar but had their own style going on, she nearly cried in the meeting saying she wanted it exactly like the site she showed us, we told her that we didnt want to rip off other peoples work, she said, "well its your job t omake it look the same but different" we did something like that again, about 3 version, she cried again then got her brother who "knows the web" to design it, he sent us a complete rip off of the shite she like. we made her sign a contract saying we were no longer responsible for the design if the original creators saw it. she didnt care.
Some people just dont give a shit.
i hate her, she was one of the most beutiful women i hav eever seen but the more i meet her the more stupid looking she became.jesus, why did i just type all that, its not like anyone really cares...

I'd be extremely happy to get some refs like that. Now that client knows what he wants and how. I respect that immensely.
Everything looks the same anyway. You just haven't seen enough design.

That's herendously funny...I was doing comps for a jewlery site and the client also provided sites that he likd and they all looked exactly like the first two or three that you listed....I think it's the jewelry type of thing...clones indeed.

i know i didn't copy my site from anywhere else, but i'm not saying everything i do is totally original
but I try... and someone in there didn't even do that...
