I was wondering if it is possible to click on a button from a swf loaded on level 100 and have that button trigger the root swf to go to a specific frame of the root?

Yes.
Reference the 'root' swf as level 0.
_level0.gotoAndPlay("frame")

_root.gotoAndPlay(3);
that should work too...where 3 is any frame number. if you want to target a frame lable then use "lablename" instead of the number, with quotes.

Actually _root's are independent to each level. _root of level 100 would be level 100's root. level 0 must be used.
