Thoughts, agree or disagree?
I think this is interesting but then again I might be rather dull.Decorators with Keyboards

Interesting, this writer has had a imagination lobotomy though.

"Unfortunately, we have hired a generation of web designers who don't know anything about computing, or the principles on which the web is based, or the reasons for its success. In fact, most of them are not web designers at all: they are graphic designers, or print designers, who have strayed into an area they don't understand. They are just painters and decorators with keyboards. "
unfortunately this guy seems to be a computer geek who has no understanding that the web has developed into; something more than pure information - just as advertising changed from 'it does this, you should drink it' to sophisticated guerrilla campaigns so the web has its own specialised and targetted areas.
This guy is just a whinging philistine who will choke on his own bitter words.
tho' there are snippets of truth in there, I just dont like his tone.

must be someone here working in Farringdon/Clerkenwell - reckon they should get round there with a coupla hard pipe hitting n*ggas to go to work on the homes over there with a pair of pliers and a blow torch.

So is he basically saying that all web design firm sites should be a text list... cool!

It's a tricky subject !

i agree with this bloke for a great part.

some of what he says makes sense I agree, but he sounds so totalitarian and patronisingly dull that I think his world would be void of any colour he deems it superfluos to everyone elses needs.

sites can look fantastic with proper xhtml/css (and i mean: almost flash like!) but too few here seem to experiment with it.. why not?
test your site on a LYnx reader and see how compatible it is as a text-only site..
well, that is: not portfolio sites (but even they can be so), but mostly client work.. sites that might be viewed by a broader audience; even so blind/challenged people!

I think some music can be too challenging.

very true - techno MUST be banned from the web, there can be no justification for that.

Can you get all newspapers in large print?
- unknown0
nice angle - and since when was the broadsheet a user friendly design - try reading that on the train, I'm like a pissed origami novice with a bag of chips!

I'm not keen on his tone but i do agree with most of what he says.
But it can be hard convincing a client that whizz bang graphics and flash may not be a particulary good idea for some purposes. Even big organisations.

The web is not an utopian place. Thank god!

Well, i'd argue that newspaper analogy doesn't work. The main differentation between the web and print is that the web CAN be altered by the user to display what they want to see and how they want to see it. It's interactive and customisable. If a site doesn't take advantage of this unique feature then perhaps the site fails.

dont take everything so seriously blofeldt... it was a joke.

The shittiest most unuseable designs were dictated to me through guys in their late 40s. That's hardly children, age has nothing to do with it.
Also, I hate Icons you have to roll-over to know what they do.
