cool vs conservative clients

Hi,
I've been freelancing for a while and am in the process of rebranding my company.
At the moment I'm trying to work out what kind of clients I should be aiming for. I love working for cool companies such as fashion labels but have found that generally these clients have little money or are unwilling to pay as much as more conservative clients.
So I'm just curious to know if there is any designer's out there or at newstoday who just work on fun cool projects and can still pay their bills?
I guess I have a perception that everyone want to work on these sort of clients so they offer less money for working on their projects?
Please let me know your thoughts, any feedback would be much appreciated.
Cheers,

we only take work that we think is interesting. I'm not sure if that's what you mean by cool. We also don't make as much $$$ as we could because of that attitude but I like to enjoy my job that's why I chose to do this. Otherwise I would have been an accountant or plumber. It makes it tough sometimes but you would be shocked at what seems like a boring job you can make fun. Thtas really the challenge right?

Plumbers is a pretty awesome job too. Imagen making housecalls to those hot mamas at home, all alone when their husbands are at work.
I've seen it happen. On tv.

thanks for your advice guys. I really sux at maths so it looks like I better getting used to fixing leaking taps and needy housewives :)
I guess I'm just sort of stuck deciding how cool I want my corporate ID to be. I have two logos at the mo, one more conservative and one more out there. Everyone in there 20's prefers the more out there logo but everyone over 35 prefers the more conservative one.
I think I will end up going for the more conservative on so I don't limit the kind of companies I can work for.
Any thoughts?

I get to bust out some fun projects- but it's usually the lamer one's that pays the 1st of the month off.

for some reason i do not favor making money off of the things i enjoy in life (design / music)
stealing money from corporations and commercial marketing peeps is fun tho
i have to keep personal projects alive, even if they are working for clothing or records, simply because i am able to be much more creative than most cases on a daily basis - and the revision cycles are almost non - existent that leads me to think about authentic creativity which opens a whole new can of worms via: art vs. design :-)
