hello boys and girls, i'm about to embark on my first annual report, just wanted to come here for some tips on a few of the more complicated pages and what the best way to lay these out in quark. this is a 20 pager + front and back cover.
Basically i'm looking for tips on the alignments and the justified text you see in the two samples above. you guys are the best.
Thanks =)

you mean how technically?
Set up tabs and keep everything in a series of link text boxes with columns, that way everything will flow if you change something.
Nice tip is to set up a tab say 3mm in then after a heading hit a return and type cmd then when you hit return all the body copy will flow from that tab.
Maybe you already know this.
And use style sheets for all your headings, body copy and spacing - saves you a lot of work as per css.
hth.

that should be type cmd backslash

everything rasko said. and speaking from experience, annual reports are absolute hell. especially when it comes to the financials. be prepared for about 15 revisions that will completely fuck up your type layout all over the place. seriously.
but its worth it. annual reports are great portfolio pieces.
best of luck. feel free to ask me whatever. ive done a couple of them

rasko, bon, thanks guys, i know it's going to be hell, i'm afraid to open the thing! hah
i have a week to do this, i will def. try my hardest to kick it's ass, and i'll probably ask you guys a few questions here and there! =) thanks again for the help...the revisions will be hell i know.
the last designer that did this set up all the pages as different files in quark? that's not right is it?
mostly i'm worried about the tabs and spacing...

another thing well worth looking into is the using the library to set up anything you're likely to use repeatedly, that way you just change the master item and all the others change with it.
And setup a master page with your page numbers etc.
Some people do put pages into seperate files - I think its just a workflow preference and it means if the file gets damaged you've only lost one spread - I'd just back up regularly, its not a huge amount of pages afterall.
good luck!

i'm in need of more help, this fuckin blows...
check out this image i uploaded and let me know about that alignment? i need for the numbers that you see there to be aligned as well as the parentheses. justifying to the right helps but the parentheses don't let the numbers align?
does this make sense? check out the image i uploaded...
thanks guys...

justify to the point, not to right....
...i dont have an english version of quark, so, i dont know if its justify to the point, or justify to the comma, or justify to the ...
but i think you can guess what i mean: 543,897 <--- the comma

well you're never going to be able to align avery single character exactly with the one above it unless you're using a monospaced type face, you'll just have to choose how you want to align it (left/right/centre) and set up you tabs.

the hardest page i get in no time, and the fuckin easiest is giving me trouble...
