my advice is:
always contact the printer that you intend on using. they can tell you everything that you need to know.believe me, though printers love your money, they love an easy project even more, so they will tell you straight up the ways to make your project go thru as painlessly as possible.
seriously. they will be glad that you asked, because that means less trouble for them.

if they are four colour cards make sure any images are cmyk and make sure that any colours you use in illy/freehand/quark are cmyk. Or if you are using spot colours make sure they are specified as spot colours. The just step and repeat your cards so you have say 8up on a page (or whatever your printer prefers, add registration marks where they should be and colour them up as registration.
thats it really, just make sure you supply any images/eps files and fonts (or convert them to paths.
pretty simple really but they'll probably charge you a setup anyway.
