By the way you may have to be French to understand their form but you don't have to live in France to open an account.
I opened one from London. Just put 00000 where it says "code postal"

The postcode trick should work. Their technical support told me to do that to open my account from London. But you have to wait about 10 days to receive your user id and password by post. But it's still 100meg free with mySQL so can't complain...

Yes exactly the format is user.free.fr.
But if you register a domain name with someone like 123-reg.co.uk you can direct your domain to where you want within a frame (I know not ideal but it's free).

I tell you those French have a thing about tradition...
- I'm not sure you can change the DNS parameters because they don't give you a static ip and for that to work I think they would need to enter your domain name in their DNS list. But I'm not a DNS expert...
