How do you go about in deciding to use possible copyrighted photographs/artwork in a collage?
I mean, when you take a bit out of the image and tweak it a bit and make it part of a whole new artwork.
This really bothers me, although I see plenty of it used in advertising, illustrations in magazines, websites etc.etc.
Please don't pass links to legal stuff (well not right away), rather your thoughts on this.
I want to know what YOU, designer/artist think of this, and if you use this technique, even commercially.

i never use anyone else's work. i try to take all my own photographs and use my own drawings. but if this isn't an option i pay the artist for the work i use. simple as that.

exactly... damnit, right on the spot Patrick.
i have an image like that and wanted to blend a part of it in a design, but i am too scaaaaajwed...
:(

me too Tyrone.
but some images are extremely hard to reproduce..
also: sometimes (even today) i see (commercial!!) collages which use very, very old ink/line drawings in it... they are adjusted bigtime in PS or whatever tho..
more thoughts plz.

RE: VH1 bumper lust ...
I'm afraid it's every man for himself.

i already thought so.
competition struggles...
good luck to the both of you however.
btw. TF check your mail in a few...writing now.

TF has anyone ever told you you resemble jack black slightly?
- Tyrone0
4cy.....there doesn't seem like a definitive answer to your question. After seeing TF's post now i think i understand better what you're trying to do. The only advice I have would be that if it makes you uncomfortable then it's a bad idea... or if you saw your artwork used the way you intend to use someone else's and you got pissed then it's a bad idea as well. You probably didnt need that type of advice but hey....it's sunday. good luck.

remember being pink comes with a certain responsibility.....make us all proud ;P

hehe, thanks Tyrone..
but TF's one was perhaps too obvious.. what if I'd use smaller bits, from old holiday-brochures?
for some reason i feel less guilty about that...

thoughts?
- ********0
oh yeah... being pink makes me even more hesitating about putting my shit up for global display..
but I am finally working on things...
yuccazucci will become yuccazucci: for the slightly more interesting shapes and colours and other visual disturbance.
cy media design will move somewhere else..

just for the fact that you have a conscious about this I'm gonna give you the go ahead! Seriously though, it seems like what you're trying to do isn't a big offense. I think I would go ahead with it. If anyone gives you lip tell em Tyrone said it was cool. I'm not to be fucked with ;P
- TransFatty0
my advice is this.
you should only be so lucky to have someone single you out for using the most boring of all reference : brochure images.
i say if you can see a way to re-hab these images into something new and wonderful than go for it and don't look back.
if they wanted to press charges
then fine, but at least you fufilled your fantasy.so .... go ....
go!go!go!
- ********0
cool!
so if they bother me I
better call Tyrone?
