can you blur in flash?
- unfittoprint0
you can't achieve real Blur (yet) in Flash. The nearest thing is to use copies of the desired object and decrease their _alpha property in each one of them (80, 60, 40,...). Another way is to do the blur effect in Adobe (for example) and export the final result to flash as a PNG. Then you could make a nice transition from the blurred image to the original by decreasing _alpha for the first one and increasing in the second one...
there are some techniques, with actionscript or not, to achieve similar results:

good luck,

so how come this site is done so well, how dd he adhieve that blur technique?
- unfittoprint0
ok. the initial part is vector and the animation done in flash. As you problably notice, in the end a blurred background starts to fade in. That's an image. Problably he mad a jpeg (or png) of the final result , blurred it in Adobe and use it in a movieclip.
This clip was used in a motion tween where the only thing change was its _alpha: 0 --> 100.

looks like he is using a png like unfit said. you can use a transparent png's also, good if you want to have your blur over multiple background colors

but dont png's make huge file sizes?
- sexypixel0
yes. but you can compress them, they just get exported a jpg in the swf anyway

sweet. thanks..

that's for you to decide. If it's the layer in the background you can use a jpeg. But if you want to use see-through image above the scene, the only solution is a png.

This might be of use to you..
draw a shape a circle or something.. delete the outline ...
then go to modify > shape > soften fill edges.. and you should have a blur

I made this file a while ago to fake blurs in flash. It blends between any two clips, but as discussed, you do have to have a blurred and sharp version of any image to create the clips.

The FLA:

Hope this helps
