Rather than start a new thread, I'm bumping this one from 2003:
Any video game design resources appreciated, but what I'm looking for more is 2D/platformer-related, level design principles, and character/graphics/visual design for games – not concept art, but the technical side, foreground/background, etc.
I've already read dozens of the design blogs at Gamasutra.
