Alright. So I did some mocks for a client months ago. We agreed that he would pay me $1000 to do them. I eventually got hired on internally for this client and he keeps giving me the run around. How do I go about collecting? Both good and bad methods are welcome as I likely will be quitting this job within a few weeks. Any ideas?
Oh yeah..and it's work for a well known politician too....imagine that. Haha

take any work that you haven't finished and not come back till he pays you... or....
get an orang.....

remind him of the contract he signed with you and its legal repurcussions..
you DID have a contract right...

Yeah...I think my time is coming up. We have a provincial election coming up on Aug. 5th and I control all of the Premier's web stuff. I could possibly play extremely dirty...
What is the normal course of action? It's been months, he tells me that the check has been processed..yadda yadda. Where do I go from there? Threaten legal action?
- K_Fresh0
Yeah..contract...ummm of course I did. Haha. At that time we were in "talks". We had a verbal agreement. I guess I was a wuss and trusted him because I didn't want to jeopardize future work.

Oh yeah...I do have e-mails saved on my machine that make reference to this payment as well.

don't worry - if he's a politician he must be an honest, trustworthy stand-up guy - aren't all politicians

..was he let out of prison on Monday?

You will never win in court against a politician, by threatening legal action you are playing right into his hands.
Publicity of non payment might scare him.
- K_Fresh0
Yeah true...I'll have to play with the bad publicity. Maybe go to opposing parties and make a fuss. Hmm time is running out.

No contract? No signatrue?
dude......dude.
kiss that money good bye. it doesn't matter if it's your best friend, ALWAYS HAVE A CONTRACT!!!
you did work for a politician with no contract, that statement alone should tell you something. live and learn.

Say to him as politely and inocuously as possible that the local newspaper wants to write a story about the non payment.

Man, you are going about this all wrong. You will not get paid if you waltz in their all ballsy, threatening him with going to the papers. Grow up people.
Best thing to do is get to the person whose signature is on the check..usually the financial controler. Speak to them and try and sort it out.

Yeha true...but there is a point after which I have to start taking more drastic measures. I've been trying to collect this money for months. I was just wondering about how you guys normally go about it.

when you leave there take $2000 dollars worth of his stuff. computer, printer, fax, pencil sharpener, the hot receptionist.
fuck em'
- K_Fresh0
Yeah I thought about that. And the 13" monitor and blazing past PII machine will most definitely fit in my trunk too.
I'm gonna go look for pencil sharpeners....hmmm I haven't looked in the fridge, they may store their gold bars in there.

I would wait for him after work and just beat the kat and take what he has in his wallet.
If he is a pretty popular guy and is runnning for some office thing, he will probably have more money in his wallet then he owes you.
Then just tell him that you are also collecting interest and handling fees.
Then explain that it would have been cheaper if he didn't force you to whip his ass but that is how the ball bounces some times and just walk away. Maybe buy him a shot after that to clear things up.

This sucks for you. All you did was work for a politician with out a contract. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? The press will be all over you kicking his ass for not paying you. I mean, in a sense, he asked for it.word

advice for your following projects, buy this book:

it helped me tremendously, the cd has all the forms for you to to tweak or whatever. good luck with getting the money and definitely hold on to that email you mentioned, it's not a lot, but it may help.
a $1000 really isn't worth all the trouble it sounds like you may get in, if you get dirty, expect them to come back at you 10x worse. court fees alone will break you.
good luck.

nah, maybe when the office is out to lunch go around and steal the nicer stuff. put it all in your trunk and head out to grab a bite yourself... only you're going to go home and drop it off in your bedroom.
come back with a mc d's cup in hand and act like you have no idea what happened.
