oi. doin a large format deal in AI. to make the file a little smaller, i am trying to reduce it to 25% size. i want to be able to tell the printer to size it up 400% and print.
the problem is:
for some reason, AI is telling me that everything is scaled to 100.652%
well, i can tell you that it is actual size and NOT 0.652% over.so is there any way that I can tell it that it IS 100% now? some way to reset the scale so that i (and the printer can just go right in and tell it 400% without having to worry about figuring decimals?
please say yes!
please say yes!

did you try the numeric transform option?
- Bio0
yea. that is what i am doing janne. and that is where i am having problems.
as soon as i open the numeric scale, it tells me that everything is 100.625%
ARG!

gee, sux.
is that why Corel is better for the signage industry?
damn, i wouldn't know what to do about it, Bio..sorry man.

corel is shite. but if it were in corel, i coulda fixed it in about 1.5 seconds.
shit shit shit shit shit.
anyone else know?
help a biother out?
- 4cY0
yeah, mail Brooke!
if she's not too busy packing.
- Bio0
aint got time.
i am just sending it as it is, the 1gig file comes out as 54megs once it is zipped, so that is acceptable i guess (not really but it will have to do).
thanks for help.

Go around the problem.
Save your file as EPS.
Create a new document and place the EPS back in.
Resize accordingly.Hope that helped.
- Bio0
too late to bother. already sent the file, but thanks.
the thing is that even when i draw a rectangle from scratch, it tells me that it is 100.625%. completely unaltered... even text turned to outlines reads as 100.625%
i finally just said "fuck it" (out loud) and then saved it into a very large file, zipped it and sent it.
so im thinking that everything should be ok. thanks for the ideas though ushaped and everyone else!

dude, just out of curiosity, what version of AI and how did you manage to create a 1 gig file???
- SLAZ0
make sure there is no bleed... also when creating layers and gradients, sometimes Illustrator creates hidden paths that are not seen by the eye..., no way to get rid of that though
- Bio0
AI 9
1 layer, 10ft x 10ft w/ drop shadows, gradients.there is no bleed off the page, but i included bleed on the objects in the file (standard practice for this kind of application"
no hidden lines, though some of the letters were mutilated when i exported from the original corel file. what a bitch. i HATE corel. it fucks up everything. glitchiest damned program ive ever used.
- Tyrone0
if u want to post a jpeg somewhere for me to see i might be able to help but seeing as you sent the file already........sorry i woke up late.
- SLAZ0
no need to make the file 10ft x 10ft... make it 10 inches x 10 inches... illustrator scales no problem, this saves you on file size and even waiting for the file to open.

arg. from now on, anything that goes to this company will be made from scratch in illustrator.
no more exporting from corel.
anyway, the new job i am gonna start soon generally uses AI for this kinda stuff so that i dont have to EVER use corel again.
from now on, all my large format graphics will be designed at 10px x 10px.
=)

Bio, does that mean you got the job that you posted about last week? if so, Congrats! You may have already said something about it, but I was out of town for a few days.....If you're wondering who the hell I am, I don't generally post alot, but I read most of the interesting threads
- Bio0
haha. thanks jman! i did get the job!
so you're a lurker eh? hahah. that's all good. i think i remember you wishing me luck. and i am pretty sure that without the luck you wished me, i wouldnt have gotten the job (although bonseff's juju helped quite a bit!) so thanks again man!!!
=p
- crapmeister0
so it's definitive?
the job is yours?
so when are U gonna break the news to the company U currently work for?
and did U get the money U asked for?
- Bio0
i cant break the news here until they call me back with a starting date. but yes, the job is for sure. they just have to get my info in their systems and get me started on salary and all that good shit. i wont give my 2 weeks notice here until the new place tells me to.
as for the money, we settled. it was a difference of 1,000 bucks. i agreed to it bc they have an employee cafeteria where i can eat free every day!!! i figure a thousand dollars a yr comes out to 50 cents an hour, 4 buck a day... and i can eat more than 4 dollars worth of quality casino food. =D
so it all works out for the best.
i also checked on my vacation time. for every week i work, i get 2.5 hrs vacation time. so after 3/4 months, things should be looking perfect for a nice week long trip. ive been practising my dutch on my plants. i think ive got the pronunciations all down, now just gotta work on my vocabulary.
anyway, everything is GREAT! i love life!
