has anyone done any "charity" or "pro-bono" design work? I have an opportunity to do some work for a pretty big health industry organization, and the exposure would probably be really good.
what are your thoughts?
if you did some work like this, did you still have a contract?
if so, what did it include that would be different from a regular client contract? advertising, promotion items?

Include that your invoice still has a dollar amount, which you will consider donated service. Also a document (receipt) showing the service was completed and the donation was accepted. Then tell your tax person their NPS Organization ID.

most charity works leads to no leads.. but hey, you never know

hell, i think it is a good thing.
mimio covered pretty much everything i can think of and i agree with what he told you.i have done some charity work, and after i finished, i felt like i had redeemed some of my evil deeds. heheh.
and yes, it can get you some leads, but most of the time, those leads will want more free work even when they HAVE the money to pay for it.

Make sure you get invited to their parties too. They have the best catering.

isn't that the definition of "free" lancing...?

I've been doing too damn much 'Pro-Bon' work lately and no. Not really, no contracts involved with it, just a word of mouth thing and deadlines given.

I have done some work for the Equal Justice Coalition in my city, like when a beaten wife needs legal representation and has no money. I did a flash intro for them, got my name on their site and eventually got 2 more lawyer sites out of working with them. It was a win-win all the way around. Plus I felt pretty good about it afterward. Also, I work for a legal paper and the people at my paper think I am a pretty good guy for doing it for nothing.

mrdobolina you are exceptional. You used your powers for good not evil.

like bio, it balanced out my karma a bit.
my dad used to beat up my mom a bit when I was a kid (they were divorced soon after), so it seemed like the right thing to do. Mom thought so too :) and you cant buy that kindof PR with your mom.
