I've received an email from a UK IT company offering me partnership.
Is it worth going that way and what hidden dangers should I look out for?

the way you described it, it sounds like spam: "i recieved an email...offering me partnership"
what kind of company? public, private, C Corp, S Corp, LLC, LLP? are they offering shares, options, percentage of ownership?

No it's not spam.
What they need is someone to do the design bit in future projects as they are strongest in backend web development and hosting. They also provide ADSL.
