always accepts critics made in a constructive way. people that are arrogant and insultuous are not worth listening to.

Another problem on here... is that people post up sites that are half finished and ask what you think... half the time it's because they can't wait to show their stuff off but aren't proud enough to do a proper launch.

Oh no, I think you guys misunderstood what I was getting at... I've recieved mostly helpful crit here in the past and I can definitely take someone hating something I do. It just seems that a lot of the commentary is getting really personal. ( The guy who posted something about $100 web work being a good example...) Just a thought. Most of it's funny actually. The links to Eric Jordan's Marker Art days had me rolling.

For a meaner tomorrow.

this ain't shit.
this board if anything is more gentle then others.
anyway - whats wrong with evil ?

Well first of all the thread title is off the colors are a bit gray and the font sucks. The basic thread is ok but could use some work. Content needs work though and some of the submissions are just crap.

But I always tried to be a sweet kid?

Everyone should post marker art. Newstoday would be a much happier place! Eric should have posted here for crits years ago.

anyway, it's kind of hard to take any of the criticism seriously in any "forum" where, for all i know, brains in jars of liquid crystals shudder to speak. this includes back slapping and face slapping....but it is amusing.

I don't see it myself, most sites seem to get a fair response, if they're good people say so, if they're not then the advice people give is usually constructive.
$100-template type websites are fair game and should be publicly flogged, tarred and feathered and then possibly spread-eagled but only when posted on Monday mornings.

I prefer constructive criticism from the crowd rather than two word replies like:
"it's good!" "nice work!"
I mean, it's great to have praise to know what you are doing works well, but its probably more important to realize the need to improve a certain area in order to increase the praise.
I found that when I went to a certain other msgboard, that everyone would praise the designers effort, and make almost zero suggestions. I would likely be one of the few people (plz excuse if I sounded boastful) making a "harsh" criticism, which would invariably fall on deaf ears.
It's a bit frustrating really, and made me wonder what was the point of the board if people who submitted their work knew what they were going to change in the first place, regardless of user input.
That's why I am happy to come here, as I know NTers will be very honest and harsh (yet hopefully constructive), and I suppose thats the way it should be, for as the saying goes:
"When all men think alike, no one thinks very much."

NT should maintain honesty. Seeing countless crit thread with "nice work" just seems like some political ploy by the one praising the work - or they have bad taste.
mean is better. as a designer you should develop thick skin.
there's nothing more humbling than having your work ripped up by a client. you should have the experience on here where it really doesn't matter.
Harsh and brutally honest crits are important for developing designers... and if you are worried about the designers feelings or that it might discourage a potential designer out of the field... well, don't we all agree there are too many designers in the field to begin with? shake the weak ones out.

I have no problem with honest critiques, but why mean? why harsh? There should be a modicum of respect there... not just for the sake of the person getting critiqued but for the credibility of the critic.
I have a healthy self-respect for myself and will ignore flaming gasbags, and everyone should too.
The other thing I hate are vague critiques.

your right... I don't mean "mean" as in disrespectful. I meant a meaner newstoday as in right now it's like everybody is kissing everybody's ass to a degree. It's just not like that in the real world where clients are paying thousands of dollars etc.
respectful but brutally honest.

I know what the feeling is like.
I always get negative comments when I ask for help.I don't understand why everyone has to bash ya.
