the work doesn't look as kickass as I would expect of a banksy show.( didn't go there, just looked a your pics)
How did U experience it?
what was the vibe, etc?
- rasko40
I've been to 2 banksy shows before and they're always a bit dissapointing to be honest..
the vibe was a bit lame really, he's been featured in a couple of national papers recently and so a lot of people seemed to be bandwagoners and urban fashion types sitting around on sofas..
I'm glad I went but it just doesn't compare to say a barry mcgee show or something like shopping market. (and I think that banksy nicked the upside down painted cars idea from twist anyhow.
As it was in a derelict warehouse that added nicely to the chaos but really I think more effort could have gone into it.

in conclusion, I think that when you take the work out of its intended context (the street) it kinda loses something, the surprise element of finding the stencils here and there interacting with there surroundings is everything.

really nice!

nice conclusion, Rasko.
I think U are totally right.
His work is ab fab but when U remove it from the street to a gallery the chances of it being still kickass get seriously reduced. It loses that raw edge and the surprise factor that it contains while hanging in the street. I do think graffiti-art can be hanging in an artgallery but it kinda depends on the type of work I guess.

I was out of town so thanks for posting the pictures. Thought the animals looked good. Not bothered about Churchill or the Police van really.
Rasko and anyone else who knows a bit about Graffiti artisits, post up some useful names for those of us who are ignorant about the subject so we learn a bit more about it.
Cheers

the use of animals was checked with the rspca, it is no different to a farmer branding his stock

They're animals. As long as they were treated right, and didn't suffer any pain, then the problem's entirely yours.
Having lived on a farm, I can assure you cows aren't that proud..
Personally, I think more pets should be painted - I mean, I'd feel a lot more comortable if more old ladies took to whitewashing their poodle's arses once in a while...

In southern Spain you used (still..?) to be offered free spray-painted fluorescent henchicks when you spent over a certain amount in supermarkets at Eastertime.
They came in tiny little cages, and were bright green, yellow, orange and pink. Not sure whether you were supposed to eat them, pet them or throw them away when you got home...
That, I thought a little cruel. I mean, I couldn't envisage any comfortable manner of dowsing thousands of the poor little buggers in likely noxious chemicals..

as you can see by the pics, those animals were pretty chilled out, they didn't seem traumatised whatsoever.
