die old ladys who have never switched from 4.7...die damn you!!!!!!

You know there are going to be some people who really know nothing about computers thinking that the whole of the Internet is closing down.
That would be something.
- sparker0
so is internet explorer for both the pc and mac...muwhahahahhahaa...
rise up, ye alternative browsers...
- unknown0
i dont mind coding for alternate broswers. since they are all pretty damn good now.....just not NUTSCRAPE
- unfittoprint0
*this UnfitToPrint post is Netscape 4.7 optimized. sorry.
- jevad0
this is not a good thing.
if you were decent web designers you would all know that...
:p
- enobrev0
well it could be. it's unfortunate that all the jobs were lost, but now it's free of aol.
I've heard rumors that Sun and a few others are offering contributions to keep Mozilla kicking.
- jevad0
true mark - it's free of aol - which lets face is, IS the anti-christ...but what if nobody picks mozilla up!!?!
that would be a fucking tragedy...
- enobrev0
admittedly i don't know very much about the mozilla community, but i don't imagine it will let mozilla slip through.
It will probably slow development and releases, but popular open source communities tend to push through hard times.

In the end, netscape did far more good than harm to web design. As designers, we're better off with Netscape than without.

I like this article from the PBS - http://www.evolt.org/article/Bro…
it talks about how from now on IE6 will take on the role of NS4...
"So we'll be as annoyed with Explorer 6 as we once were with Netscape 4. We won't feel like we're better off. We'll see Explorer as Netscape 4 reborn.
Therefore Explorer 6 will start changing roles shortly. Where once it was an Evil Usurper, it will now take on certain aspects of Netscape 4's role. It will mutate into a Senile Evil Dinosaur Usurper within the next year or so.
"Explorer is a Dinosaur" meets "Microsoft is Evil". Interesting development. Besides, we could try to port more of Netscape 4's traditional attributes to Explorer, for instance its well known tendency to lose any Browser War it's in."

"die old ladys who have never switched from 4.7...die damn you!!!!!!"
LOL

mozilla is now under the control of a not-for-profit development company.
it will continue same as always.

Netscape is gone... thats the point...
Mozilla acctually lives on with more volunteer devlopers than ever...
about netscape 4 doing more good... bah... meh
all it did was hinder the growth of new technologies
IE 6 dissapearing?? maybe... but the only reason it would is that microsoft is going to stop developing it... but it still is a great too for the time being.
You guys are amazing.. or way to young to remember the hell Netscape 4.7 caused us all... and the milllions and billions of dollars and time wasted develeping pretty much 2 sites for every site... or working around every thing NS4 killed.
Mozilla going on... Great
Netscapes death.. even better
I mean come on.. because of NS 4.7 we still have to battle clients to this day who want to support it for the .0% of their clients that use it.....

settle down people. don't believe every nerdy blog you read
AOL laid of 50 people...the move affects less than 10 percent of Netscape's staff..."Netscape remains a key part of our multibrand strategy," AOL spokesman Andrew Weinstein said.

Did anyone check this link out:
http://www.tnl.net/blog/2003/6/3…
Has some interesting info about AOL and MS when the 7 year contract is up.
I can't wait untill the browser is truly integrated into my OS, transparent to me.
Imagine the things we will be creating!!!
We do some SWEET stuff!
