one day, one day I will get a non_MORONIC client.
dude wants a 2 color, tri-fold brochure, but he's pissed off that i quoted him $400 for 3 comps. his argument is "Well I sent you all the text and my logo, it should only take 2 hours" whatever.
to check it out go to:

how long did you spend on that, not bad if it was 2 hrs...

tell that ReRun to suck a root. Your work is worth ten times more than that man. ;)
- auricom0
i have about 4 hrs into it. i had to redraw the logo because the idiot sent me a damn jpg. I just didn't want to go all out for it considering the situation.

there are way too many computer illiterate bastards out there, it makes me cringe!

no doubt man, this guy has a brand new 15" powerbook and says he has trouble finding the Dock. as soon as he said that i about shit.
i need the money so bad though, even if i do get screwed on time. my full-time gig doesn't pay the bills so i spend my friday and saturday nights dealing with this stuff so i can eat. don't ever move to Richmond, VA.

The Lion's Den??? there are probably 3 strip clubs in every state called The Lion's Den.
I'd fire them for having such a terrible name if they bitch about pricing one more time.
- auricom0
hahaha, that was the first thing i thought of when i got their email. i was like "Dude, i'm going to freelance for a stipclub, big money, big money....and free show"

It doesn't matter if you spent 5 minutes on his damn brochure. Its not his place to determine what your time is worth. You need to make sure he understands you're providing him with a service or your expertise and a product. He obviously needs you. See - there are certain clients who think we're just an assembly line of brochures and collateral. Like their secretaries, but we don't get the phone.

bummer auricom. sounds like your client needs an education on the value of design services. that seems to be a common theme in this economy. one small thing regarding the layout, the first two paragraphs on page 1 both have widows at the end.
- auricom0
thanks, the layouts changed a bit since that version. i just got fed up and called him and told him it's going to cost him a lot more then what he wants to pay. he gave in, but i'm still not getting what i fully deserve for it. he called me this morning with additions and expected them for free, that set me off.
that just sucks though, at first i was excited about doing the brochure, but with the way he's acting, i give give 2 shits how it turns out.

Sounds like he's one of those jackasses that can screw a bunch of creatives in all media formats so he can call himself a "one-stop shop".

what strippers?
- piperboytoy0
you need to redo the typography in the first page. Don't leave words all by themselves!! The words "deserves" and "input" needs to be brought up or bring down some words to fill the line more.
Did you sign a contract with him? Sounds like he's gonna stiff you!! Better get Cash on Delivery!
- auricom0
i did redo it, like i said, it's changed since the first version. all the text is larger and evenly spaced now. i was half tempted to just give it to him as is, but knew i couldn't. I gave him my contract, but again, he was extremely shocked by the price. so it's either tell him to fuck off and starve for a few days or do it and be able to make a decent meal.
i know there were some changes to make from the first draft i posted. if you know your getting screwed on a project, do you really want to give it your all?
- BonSeff0
what do the other 2 comps look like?
- BonSeff0
is that pdf you posted a 2or 3 color job? not bad for a trifold brochure.
- auricom0
it's 2 color, black and pantone 110 U. i haven't exported the others as pdf's yet, still chillen in Indesign.
- piperboytoy0
if you know you'll get screwed at the end, why do you bother finishing it? Just leave them and only finish when he calls and offers to pay upfront.
- auricom0
if he would call and offer that. i am just going to finish the last comp and be done with it. it may be less money then i expected, but it's more then i have. ugghhhh...to think i have a full-time design job and still have to do all this to get by, mainly because of my 74 mile, one-way commute each day.

ouch auricom, thats a drive for sure. you never know though, your worst client might send you a sweet referral. it happens
