I did some asp coding on the following site
www.trovitalia.orgHe hasnt paid me in full and has run away with the site and transfered it to another server.
I recieved a letter today stating that they are not paying me because the site does not follow international standards, and they would like me to pay them 2000 Euros due to the expenses incurred when they switched the site to another server, and this apparently is all my fault !!
Its a long story and I wont bother you with the details, I didnt know whether to laugh or cry when I read the letter this morning. If I dont pay he wants to send me to court.
I have 2 questions for anyone kind out there.
1.What are the "international standards" for building a dynamic ASP driven website.
2.Where is the site currently being hosted ? By whom?
Thanks, this is a bad day, very bad, Ive got butterflies and sinking feeling.

Shit mate he sounds like an ass. There are no 'international standards' as far as i know. Thats the whole problem with our industry.
Did it say that the code has to comply to these so called standards in the contract. I'd doubt it. He sounds like he's clutching at straws. And he should have come to you with any problems.best of luck with it

tell him firmly:
"You are a terminal cunt!"
Did you have a contract with the guy?
I heard that contracts are rarely issued in Italy....

That sucks. My brother got stuck in a dodgy contract in Italy, sounds like workers' rights there are a complete joke.

COCK.
shall I send the boys round?

Sounds like they're trying it on. I don't know of any international standards, unless it's W3C. See if you can track down the hosting company. Good idea to leave a back door inot your site incase of this. Even though it's not really allowed.

How would you leave a backdoor? Sounds like a great idea to save yourself just incase.

Blofeldt - W3C? any more info on this? Im fairly new to ASP. I wish Id never even bothered with it now. Its not really my bag anyway. There is no back door, Im not that clever.
Sexypixel - Yes, I had a contract, stating more or less that he owns the site and I code it and maintain it. I then take 40% of direct profits from the portal on a monthly basis.
How do I find out who the new hosting company is?
Thanks for everyone support. I dont think he has much of a case really, but this man is a phscho, he will send me to court, he told me a while back that he went to court recently and lost because someone started a rivel site with same domain name but different suffix, he had www.bbitalia.com and someone started a site called www.bbitalia.it, I beleive he lost.
He mad as a brush, a wounded animal, unstable. Y the fuck did nt I spot it at the start? I am a crap judge of character.

btw. how's life in italy?

don't pay.
he can't do anything against you unless u signed a paper that proofs u did everything wrong.

Can't you just threaten to take him to court for non-payment and breach of contract? If that fails you might like to consider stealing his children, taking a crap in his shoes, setting his car on fire, shagging his wife etc.

Life in Italy is not easy, its riddled with corruption, everyone is on the fiddle in some way or another and everyone is clambering over everyone else to try and earn extra $$, little regard for pride, principles and ethical conduct, I suppose its what happens when there isnt enough money to go around.
Luckily the majority of work I get at the moment is for a company who have just enough decency to pay me and the work is quite creative, but give an inch and they try for a mile.
My 2 kids continue to grow and are perfect angels, I worry about their future and I worry about money...95 % of the time...it used to be sex, now its just money.
the contract does not mention any internation standards, and I also worte him a letter a while back to cover my arse, it stated that if he tries to make any changes to the site without first informing me then he will be responsible, and he will have to fix any problems that arise form the changes, I am glad I wrote it now.

I believe FedEx have a special rate for the delivery of horses heads in Italy.

*bump, can anyone give me new server details?
thx.

'International Standards'!? You gotta be shittin' me. That guy is giving you a crappy excuse for not paying you. Worse, he's actually saying it's your fault. What a jerk....
Hack that motherfucker.
- unknown0
Name Server:NS000.NS0.COM
Name Server:NS182.PAIR.COMcant resolve the domain name.
- Seph0
Thanks rasko, I thought it might be Pair.
that was his previous hosting company. Unfortunately they are too big and important to hack.

There must be (as we have here in Portugal) some state entity that controls the .IT domain names. If you say you're a webmaster problably you could seek the information you want...

If you have a signed contract, that specifies compensation and says nothing of "standards" than there is no ground for the client's position. If anyone should be taking anyone to court, it should be you taking him.
Did you specify kill fees and the transfer of rights based on final receival of compensation?
Until paid, the site should belong to you. And, late payment should be garnering interest. Anything not in a "creative brief" (or something of the like), such as "international standards"you are not responsible for.
