"Our artists would rather not contribute to the demise of the album format,"
THIS is why they wont sell their songs on itunes? cant i go to the store and buy their singles?
its too bad cause i would consider buying that cd if i could just hear it first, im curious to hear it. but that single they have out now is shit.
anyone else think they are stretching it?

I think they really are missing the point...it's too bad because I have been listening to metallica, rhcp, and green day since their first albums...and their attitude really makes me think poorly of them....

Can't find the exact article, but according to Apple, at least half of their song sales belong to complete album purchases:

Some of these bands ought to consider selling their album as a complete package through iTunes. Otherwise, I think some of these bands'll get dusted.

that is a shame. I don't know why they wouldn't want to do that. I will say, I think Metallica's attitude has gone down hill. I respect them for what they think and the amount they are sticking to it and not flip-flopping about their opinion. But I think they need to realize, MP3 format is inevitable, so they should figure a way to control it (the apple store is a good start)
on the new metallica album. At first I didn't like the new single (st anger) but it has really grown on me. The same with the album, after listening to it a few times it's grown on me and I like it. I actually like the way the drums sound (which is a big detractor to a lot of people) I just wish they hadn't done away with guitar solos TT

metallica... bunch a fucking sell outs. I will never forgive them for selling out no matter how hard their new shit pretends to be.
that "new" direction they are heading in is so 1994.

I can understand artist who want to sell full album or nothing.
Can you imagine buying only Brain Damage from Dark side of the moon ??? Some album have concept, the whole album is ONE thing. Sometimes artist spend many months on establishing the order of the songs for their albums. and then people will buy seperate tunes like they buy fruits at the market ... Ok the concept can work with mainstream pop song but for some artist it can works. Its bad for the Art.
My opinion.

I really really dont like the way the mu$ic Indu$try become.
The real artists suffer from it.

Metallica are a bunch of sissy's if you ask me.

I respect the artist's wrok integrity. if they think it as whole, so be it.
Except Metallica. They're just using it as an excuse to continue their Napster-like asshole behaviour...

It's a shame when any band's most obvious effort has to do with how worried they are over their income, and how they place that above the music.
Metallica are alienating fans by making it harder to get their music.
I've never been into them, but when you see and hear about this sort of stuff, all I see is greed and alienation of fans-especially people who may be nw to them.

but a metallica album isnt dark side of the moon. they dont write concept albums. their songs are singular.
i think its just their new excuse so they dont look like assholes.
the mp3 format isnt the criminal, its the malicious distributors who are. the itunes store is such a good thing for both artists and the end user.

I do believe they're missing the boat - a lot of the damn industry is. Case in point: a few years ago when Metallica had some number of thousand users booted off Napster, I was one of them. I had downloadesd Sad But True because I wanted to see which album I was going to buy. I had pretty much decided on the black album by this point. So anyway, a half hour after discovering I was banned, I'm back online downloading but to this day I've never purchased a Metallica album. There's no way I ever would given how they treat the people that pay their bills. They call me a theif when they're the ones selling shit and calling it gold.
- benfal990
you know what Metallica dont care about all your comments guys. They still fill up statium at every show.

Could that new guy they got to play bass from Suicidal Tendencies be any uglier? He looks like a byproduct of the Hulk CGI development.
Had his hair in these odd braids at the mtv icon show.

New Album = Shite.

reminds me of directors against dvd's because they segment the movie into chapters which didn't exist in the original movie.
whatever.
your art is a commodity. it was ever since you sold it. stop treating it as sacred, cos you sure didn't when you signed that record contract, made the videos, and let it play on the radio separately from the other songs on the album. assholes.
- unknown0
people have been buying singles since the beginning of published rock n roll. 45's, cassette singles, cd singles. Hell if your into pop just freaking record the damn thing on cassette or mini disc since its on the radio 4,000 times a day.
Its all a money hungry excuse. It has more to do with the fact that the profit margin isnt as high than it has to do with we "believe" in albums. The itunes store is giving them the opportunity to make some money but instead their fans will steal the albums from Kazaa... jackasses.
- vena0
my write a cohesive album that remains true to the "album format" and you won't have this problem. :)

it's been obvious for a long time that Metallica is nothing more than a drooling cock puppet for the record industry.
