The problem is that our (the USA's) leaders are greedy whores.
They might be doing this to annoy Saddam (feeble pleasure that, since he and his sons have managed to completely elude us for so long now) or they may, which I believe is more likely, just be too clueless to see how stunts like this could bite them/us in the ass.
US soldiers should never ever have set up shop in any of those palaces for any reason, much less turn one into an R&R camp for stressed out invaders/occupiers.
Still, I suspect that many Americans in flyover country will cntinue to cling to the belief that 3/4 of the world hates us "because they hate our FREEEEDOM".
