could you clarify? is it you want to have a "game" that integrates DVD(MPEG2) video, or you are trying to make a video-based game like "Dragons Lair", the laser disc based game from the 80s?

sorry, i want to build an arcade machine that play my dvd portfolio for my final show at college, so i was wondering if a USB joystick can control the interface menu on a DVD?.

this might help you...

for the most part you'll probably need to spend $$$ on an industrial type player...

you could hook it up like this:
hook up DVD w/RS-232 control to computer, and make some sort of i/o control app with diretcor that would take the joystick input and send it over the RS-232.
might also be possible with a PS2, might want to look in to that as well...

I don't know anything about this... but you should put some fake wood paneling on your arcade machine it would be cool.

get a joystick thats got software with it to map joystick buttons to keyboard keys.... and set up a profile for WMP, or PowerDVD... whatever you use.
my MS sidewinder had software like that
