Recently my sister got a job at her boyfriends dad's place. It's a really big company. She quickly became the marketing representative (without having any formal training) She only went to university for one year.
She quickly got me several of little jobs and now i'm redesigning their website.
The Problem: She is playing an art director! She thinks that she can tell me what looks better and what to put where. She is like the CEO wants 3D on his site. I want it too.. I'm like .. corporate sites don't have a lot of 3D.. It's not clean. bla bla bla.
How can I convince her that I'm right and she isn't.. without cutting off my connections..
I know this is a little long. but if you read all of this thanks.. :)

smack the bitch round the head
that'll sort her out

tell her to remember when she got in this company she knew nothing or near and she learned.. now she is asking you to do your job.. a job you have learned..
tell her you respect her job and her position a lot but apart from ordinary comments and requests she'd better leave it off to you ..

get a grip man. just go along with what she wants. the most you could say is, "I'm not sure that I'd reccomend that." then just make it as cool as you can.
nepotism, it's how business is done...
- lind0
Yeah, nepotism -- that's how your sis became your boss (despite lack of education and experience), how Bush became President and everything else that's unfair.
If you don't like to work for your sister, find another job since she has the inside connection and you don't seem to. Sorry.

But is your sister hot?
Just askin
- Blueman0
hehe .. Hypo.. It's hard to judge your own sister.. but I've been told that she is by some.. hehe...
Yeah well I'll just give them what they want.. I mean afterall they are the ones paying for this so if they want it to look a certain way i'll give them what they want.. to a certain point.
Thanks.

hey paul..
congrats on the gig...thats awesome news man...good for you..
as for your sister..just play it by ear..
show her a variety of corporate sites one night at home, and show that none of them have 3d.
explain then why, (clunky looking, bandwidth issues etc)
then show her some of what you'd consider the cleanest, nicest corporate sites you can think of...then explain whey they're so great..from there, you give her the chance to tell her boss her 'new found' expertise in why 3d on corporate sites isn't a good idea..
if she gets to look like 'the smart marketing professional' it's gonna make both of your lives better..her boss expects her to know what the fuck she's doing..
if you help her look good, she'll in turn help you...here's a great example of super clean corporate site..

Respect your sister, she worked hard to get where she is. Anyhow, suck it up! I made a proposal to help my company have classier menus and now, somehow, agains't my will, I'm working on self-rotating text and a bouncing ball next to a self-rotating cursor. I'm sure your talent is well exploited... to the limit!

come on guys, it's his SISTER.
if you can't speak your mind to your family then hell for the rest of your life you'll be the guy comunicating only with yourself.

hey tyson..
Yeah i looked at that site and a lot more..
The thing is that you don't know my sister.. she is VERY stuborn. Her boss loves 3D and wants 3D ellements on the site. He says that that current site is too plain and boring.. but if you ask me I think that it looks just fine.. I don't mind changing it cuz i have a job. I told her that 3D isn't a good thing for corporate sites.. but she said that she looked at tones and she still likes 3D.. I just don't think that she is using the term 3D in a correct way. To her and her boss I think 3D is some bevels and drop shadows... I mean that's still fine for a corporate site..
I have one template done.. if you want to look at it.
Tell me if this would make a good corporate site.Thanks.
- exador0
not bad paul..not bad at all..
here's another good example of 3d stuff on a site..
- Blueman0
thanks ex.. thanks for the link..
would the template work for a corporate site?
- exador0
hey paul..
i suppose so...but it depends on the company, and what they're like..
the template you've shown is good, but it has a sort of 'tonka-toy' look to it..
and i dont' mean that in a bad way..
it feels industrial and whatnot, which is how it should...thats good..
but there is a sort of 'toy' like vibe..i don't know why..maybe the typeface...not sure exactly...
anyhow..
it's good work Paul...you just might want to play around with few things...
know what i mean?...
anyhow...a few more concepts like that, and you'll be in great shape..
- scarabin0
it's your sister. just tell her.
- jevad0
what scarabin said
- Blueman0
hehe thanks guys.. I think we are over that now :-) but thanks for your comments..
Thanks tyson.. I'm not going to play around with this template anymore.. If they choose to go with this one then I'll clean it up more. I'm working on the second one and it's a total 180 from this one.. I hope to have 3 totaly different templates done for them. I meet with them on monday so i'll tell you how that went.
Thanks.
- exador0
hey paul..
