If you don't plan on gaming much, I'd highly recommend the Nvidia 5200. It'll run you around $70 max but it's more than enough for most things.
Although, the overall best value is the 9600 Pro (specifically that) because you can overclock it to 9700 levels w/ stock cooling through software. And it'll run you somewhere around $160.

if you are not after hardcore d gaming, Radeon 9700 or 9800 will be your best choice..

Yeah if you're just photoshoppin and maybe doing some winamp visualization stuff, don't spend more than 100 bucks. Even if you plan to game a Radeon 9000 128 Pro (102$) would do you. I used to be diehard Nvidia til I counted how many I've replaced. ATI's got the edge right now, and they seem more stable (driver-wise). IMHO/Exp.

what do you think about the 9500? i think it's discontinued.. but i found one here:

then you'll be fine with the 9500.
all those 9500 9700 9800 and even the 900 are fine..

why do you say radeon over the gforce?

i think i'm down to this

vs. this:

cuz i found the radeon on sale for 138..
but i'll check into the 9000
thanks

i'm not defending any of them.. i mean i ave a gforce 4200 on one of my machine and it's fine. but overall the performance of the latest gforce regarding pixelshading etc are much better on a radeon
i'm not gonna start to argue about benchmarks on Quake etc . ;)

I got the radeon 9500 on my machine and it kicks ass. I play Unreal Tournament 2003 sooo smoothly, You wont feel any difference to the 9700.
Btw, you can overclock your 9500 to the performance of the 9700 if you want.
Between Radeon and Gforce, Radeon takes the cake in every review I read.

The Radeons have been great performers. The Pro series consistently outperfom the nVidia cards.
If it's only PS, you'll probably be fine with any of them.
